The Performance Tour Season 03 (2022) Episode 05 was released on May 18, 2022.

As with the last episode, the introduction segment was filmed at Bryte Payment Solutions in Jacksonville Florida. We filmed the “Once In a Loadtest” skit using their green screen studio. Thank you Dave Humphrey and everyone at Bryte. I’ll be doing future filming work at this facility, and Bryte is an official sponsor of my weekly podcast (SMCJOURNAL.COM).

Henry Steinhauer

Henry and I met on LinkedIn and when I found out about his background and experience I thought it would make a great topic to discuss how performance has always played a part in the software lifecycle. He is an extremely talented engineer and has been following performance since the early to mid seventies. It was interesting to hear what tech conferences were like in the early days of CMG (Computer Measurement Group).  We talked a bit off camera and Henry has a lot of stories that did not make  it on screen – I wish that we had more time. If you ever get a chance to meet Henry, soak in everything you can! The interview was filmed in Nashville at the home offices of 180 Health Partners. I am very appreciative to Justin Lanning, Eldon Fields, and Travis Briles for allowing us to use their facility.

Once In A Lifetime

The Talking Heads “Once In A Lifetime” video is an iconic 80’s MTV classic video of a bygone era that features the various gyrations of an awkward David Byrne. The song really lends itself to changing the lyrics up to reflect load testing. In the simplest terms it explains that without load testing, there are bad results, so the opposite is true. The song starts with “Slow as it ever was”, but ends with “Fast as it ever was”. Let’s hope people get the message.

All of the music was performed and mixed by JR McNeeley. But, yes, that is me on the vocals. I figured, “why not?”. Also note that we purposely degraded the video quality to look like an 80’s era video you might find a second generation copy of on YouTube. We even timed the number of seconds of each scene to try and match the timing as closely as possible. When you play the original beside this one, note the length of time David and I both spend on our backs “swimming” in the water. Only I am not wearing shoes! That’s because I accidentally left them at home.

Thanks
